The 16.5 cm woofer is equipped with the proven CRYSTAX cone from AXTON. The naturally warm-sounding paper cone is given greater rigidity by the additional coating of quartz crystals for more impulsive bass reproduction and a more responsive response. As a result, the woofer sounds very harmonious and still plays accurately; it clearly emphasizes instruments and voices, which is particularly valuable for lively music or audio books.

The intensive development work on the ATS-FT160C woofer is also impressive on paper. The Klippel measurements prove an extraordinarily high degree of symmetry in the force factor (Bl) and the spring stiffness of the vibration unit (Kms). Even at high excursions, the same forces act on the vibrating unit when the cone dips in and out, which is a cornerstone for lifelike and low-distortion music reproduction.

For optimum use in the vehicle door, the woofer was tuned to a low Fs of 54 Hz and a Qts of 0.65 (with crossover 0.76). On the one hand, this results in a high level stability and a powerful bass and, on the other hand, gives the mid-range a particularly harmonious and relaxed sound.

The tweeter has a 20 mm fabric dome tweeter and impresses with its brilliance and spatial reproduction. The soft suspension in a filigree fabric surround enables the dome tweeter to reproduce music details with a high degree of detail up to over 22 kHz. Thanks to its vehicle-specific design, it fits exactly into the original bracket, into which it is simply clipped. For greater safety, the connection cables are encased in foam tape; the plug fits perfectly to the original connection.

Crossovers are important for a correct acoustic connection between two components. A good crossover ensures a stable and balanced sound.

The crossover of the woofer only requires a 6 dB filter and is supplemented by an LCR element to adapt the woofer to the characteristics of the Ducato vehicle acoustics. The components are mounted on a stable circuit board with components on both sides, which is firmly screwed to the speaker basket.

The tweeter is coupled with a high-quality MKP capacitor. It is also attached to a circuit board in order to achieve a long service life for the tweeter assembly.

The ATS-FT160C is the first system in the AXTON SPECIFIC series with a preset stored in the apps of the AXTON A544DSP and A594DSP DSP amplifiers for use in the Fiat Ducato. This sound profile uses the delay time correction and the numerous equalizer bands to perfect the sound in the Fiat Ducato. The presets are available free of charge in the A544DSP or A594DSP app.

In the test of Car & Hifi in issue 4/2025 on retrofit systems for the Fiat Ducato, the testers came to the following conclusion: "The Axton ATS-FT160C has become really good. And further: "Where the system really scores is in our distortion measurements, there is little to measure here, and that up to high listening levels."

The price-performance ratio is also praised: "We are more than satisfied with the sound. Given the low price, you might not have such high expectations. But despite this, the system sounds pretty excellent, with clear mids and a great vocal range. There's not too much or too little treble, and the resolution is also just right."

The Car&Hifi testers recognized the performance of the ATS-FT160C with the "Best Product" award. This puts the ATS-T160C at the top of the comparison list for Fiat-specific loudspeaker systems.
