More Sound in the Polo VI: A Small Powerhouse with a Big Impact
A modern compact car like the VW Polo VI comes standard with plenty of comfort and technology. When it comes to sound, however, driving pleasure often takes a back seat: flat bass, dull treble, and a system that quickly distorts at higher volumes dampen the listening experience in everyday life. Our installation partner, ACR Freilassing, had just such a case in their workshop and demonstrates how to solve the problem efficiently, neatly, and invisibly.
The situation: When the factory sound is frustrating
The owner of the Polo VI was dissatisfied with the factory audio system. The list of shortcomings was long, but typical of modern standard systems:
- Not enough bass: It lacked the necessary foundation that gives the music its dynamism.
- Dull highs: The sound lacked clarity and fine detail.
- Quick distortion: As soon as you turned up the volume a little, the factory-installed radio reached its power limit.
- No soundstage: The music sounded flat and spread out indistinctly throughout the room.
The solution: The AXTON A594DSP Smart-DSP power amplifier
To give the Polo a sound boost without having to take the whole car apart or sacrifice valuable trunk space, the pros at ACR Freilassing opted for the compact AXTON A594DSP power amplifier with an integrated digital sound processor (DSP). This little powerhouse corrects the acoustic weaknesses of the vehicle’s interior directly via software and delivers the necessary stable power to the factory speakers.
The installation highlight from the workshop: Thanks to the vehicle-specific wiring harness ATS-ISO128 from AXTON, the installation easily saved 1.5 hours of labor. The amplifier is also so compact that it could be installed directly behind the glove compartment without a trace and completely out of sight. The car thus remains visually in its original condition.

The result after the professional setup
During the first listening test after installing and calibrating the DSP amplifier, the customer was visibly surprised. It never ceases to amaze me how much potential the original factory speakers actually have when driven by a clean and powerful source.
ACR Freilassing sums up the new sound in the Polo in three words: spacious, warm, and with significantly more powerful bass.
The pro tip for upgrading your audio system
According to the experts at ACR Freilassing, anyone planning such an upgrade for their vehicle should not overlook one important additional step: adding extra insulation to the doors. High-quality insulation mats (alubutyl) in the doors prevent the sheet metal and trim parts from resonating with the bass. This ensures that the bass sounds even more precise and that no annoying background noise is produced. It’s a manageable extra effort that noticeably enhances the overall result.
